THE RAINBOW JIGSAW!!

It is called the Jigsaw because we pieced together the old with the new. We kept all that’s good about Rainbows and completed the picture with the new

The four new Jigsaw areas

LOOK LEARN LAUGH LOVE

Rainbows LOOK

In this area of the Jigsaw, Rainbows have the opportunity to begin to understand that they are part of a wider world. Activities in this area could include looking at the environment, science, technology or international. Rainbows should also be encouraged to look ‘out and about’ both locally and further afield

Rainbows LEARN

During the two years a Rainbow is with us she will learn a tremendous amount both in the unit and at home and school. She will learn in many ways including meeting many different folk both in the unit and beyond. She will also learn that she is part of a much wider guiding family.

Rainbows LAUGH

Here we can encourage games, songs, parties, celebrations, making a mess and just enjoying life and having fun! While undertaking these activities Rainbows will develop important social skills.

Rainbows LOVE

This is the heart of the Rainbow Jigsaw. Rainbows understand the concept of love and are secure in this knowledge. Rainbows LOVE promotes the ethos of the Promise and begins the process of commitment to a common standard, essential to belonging to the guiding family. Through this area of the programme, Rainbows can develop their understanding of caring.

Rainbow Roundabout Badges

A roundabout badge will be available for the Rainbows to wear after participating in four activities from a Roundabout (one from each Jigsaw area.) The badge will have three different edge colours - red, blue and yellow with the centre remaining the same in all the badges. The unit should decide which colour badge they will be working for - they can choose any of the 3 colours but the unit should wear the same colour badge for the same Roundabout. All girls in the unit should be given the badge at the same time even if a girl has missed an activity. It is anticipated that during a Rainbow’s lifetime she could gain a maximum of 3 badges. This is a unit participation challenge with the emphasis on PARTICIPATION! Roundabouts complement the four Jigsaw areas: they are NOT the Rainbow programme.

Rainbow Wear

The new Rainbow wear features the new section colours of red, blue and yellow! Now you can see why the new Promise badge is blue! The range will include a hooded jacket, polo shirt, jog pants, cycle shorts and cap – all with the new Rainbow logo. Girls can choose which items they wish to wear! NOT what the leaders wish them to wear! The tabard will become an optional item, however the yellow and orange will no longer be available from Trading Service due to the lack of sales. The Promise badge will be worn above the Rainbow logo on the polo shirt and below the ‘flash’ on the hooded top. Additional badges like Roundabout or challenge badges, will be worn around the bottom of the zipped top and polo shirt or on the tabard pocket.

My Pot of Gold Badge

My Pot of Gold badge and card

At her party the Rainbow will be presented with her Pot of Gold badge and card. The cloth badge is full colour with sparkles and can be worn on her Brownie wear to show that she has been a Rainbow
