Activities Somermead - County Campsite
The Quiet Corner, Somermead We are proud of our County Campsite nestling at the foot of the Mendip Hills and bordering the Somerset Levels. It is within easy reach of Wells, Glastonbury and the famous caves of Cheddar and Wookey Hole. Somermead is owned by Somerset Guide Association. It is about 3 acres and consists of 3 campsite each with its own toilet block, and is suitable for Unit camps, Patrol camps, Ranger lightweight camps, D of E weekends etc. There is a substantial wooden building (50 x 30) known as 'The Lodge' which consists of a large hall, a kitchen, the shop and a store. This building provides dry shelter in inclement weather. The Lodge has a fridge, a freezer, a microwave and a payphone. There is a pleasant area at the northeast end of the site, which is fenced off, but accessible by a stile or a gate. The large log which serves as an altar, was brought from Scotland and is dedicated to our late County Commissioner. You are very welcome to use this area for your Guides Own services or ceremonies or just as a calm, peaceful place to sit and think. Somerspirit - Sailing Dingy
Our Comet Trio sailing dingy is extremely popular with Brownies, Guides and Adult members. 6 members have gained their sailing assistant instructors qualification enabling the boat to be used constantly at weekends and summer evenings. Derek is our senior instructor. Scout and Guide Activity Centre
