THE DIVISIONS IN THE COUNTY Bridgwater Cadbury Mendip Minehead Seavington Sedgemoor Taunton Tone Wells Yeovil Top The Division is made up of 4 Districts, Rodway (West), Bridgwater (Centre), Polden Hills (east) and Quantock (South). The Quantock Hills to the West and the Somerset Levels to the East identifies the Division with outstanding natural beauty. 3 Rainbow Units, 17 Brownie Packs, 7 Guide Units and 2 Trefoil Guilds make up the Division. A member of the Trefoil Guide also runs the local Scout and Guide Shop. The Campbell Room Scout and Guide Activity Centre is situated on the West side of the Division at the foot of the Quantock Hills. Cadbury Division boasts a lively Guiding community with some 300+ active members ranging from Rainbow Guides to Trefoil Guild. The Division is made up of two Districts - Wincanton and Castle Cary. Wincanton District is comprised of many small villages and hamlets including Horsington, Templecombe and Henstridge to the South, and the ancient town of Wincanton. Castle Cary District is comprised of the small towns of Castle Cary & Ansford and Bruton and the villages of Galhampton, Yarlington and Evercreech to the north and Sparkford to the south, where the famous Haynes Motor Museum is based. Top of page Mendip Division is situated in the lee of the Mendip Hills and is largely a rural Division serving scattered villages. The Division has two Districts, Axbridge and Burnham-on-Sea. Axbridge District's namesake is a historic country town. Connecting Axbridge with its neighbouring village Cheddar is a reservoir, which provides easy pleasure walking and, of course, sailing; an activity which Mendip Guides have enjoyed using the Somerset County boat 'Somerspirit'. Other villages within Axbridge District with Guiding units include Wedmore, Shipham and Weare. On the outskirts of Wedmore is situated the County Campsite 'Somermead' an ideal rural location for camping and the site of many Division cookouts, barbecues and competitions. Throughout the Division all sections of the Guiding movement are catered for:- Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, Friends of Guiding and Trefoil Guild.
The Division has the Quantock Hills on one side and stretches right through to Exmoor at its end - very near the Devon border. We have such beautiful places as Dunkery Beacon, the picturesque village of Dunster with its castle. the seaside at Minehead and Watchet, Horner Porlock and many little villages. It is very much a tourist area and home to the 'Somerwest World' holiday camp.
Seavington is a sprawling rural Division which has four Districts : Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster and Neroche. Neroche is a small District consisting of village units whilst the others have a mixture of town and rural units. All four districts have flourishing units of Rainbows, Brownies and Guides which are well attended and enjoy a wide range of activities. Sedgemoor is almost at the centre of the County of Somerset. We are not in the area of Sedgemoor District Council - we stretch in a long line from Fivehead in the west to Keinton Mandewille in the east. In Langport District there are two Guide units, three Brownie and one Rainbow unit. Somerton District has two Guide Units, three Brownie and one Rainbow unit. A Brownie Unit unfortunately closed this year due to a shortage of leaders. All units meet in the small rural towns of Langport or Somerton or in villages. Our fund raising activities include the sale of Guide Trefoil Badge cards, which can be ordered in either kit form or as completed cards. Taunton Division has five Districts - North, South, East, West and Central, and all sections of Guiding are represented from Rainbows to Rangers and including a very active Trefoil Guild. The local headquarters are shared with the Scouts and the building, known as Tangier, is situated in the centre of Taunton in Goodlands Gardens. Guiding in Taunton is thriving and our location enables Guides to enjoy the benefits of a modern town - the theatre is the venue for the highly acclaimed annual Gang Show, while bowling and swimming are always popular activities; and the nearby hills and woods which provide an abundance of camping, cooking, hiking and other outdoor opportunities. Our Division lies to the south west of Somerset and consists of the communities of Wellington, Milverton, Bishops Lydeard and Wiveliscombe. The Division is in two Districts. Wellington is a small town and has a population of around 12,000. Guiding is very active in the town and comprises a Guide unit, 4 Brownie Packs and a Rainbow Unit. In nearby Rockwell Green there is a Brownie Pack and a Rainbow Unit. Deane District is of a similar size consisting of 2 Guide companies (Wiveliscombe and Bishops Lydeard), 5 Brownie Packs and 2 Rainbow Units. This district combines 3 very attractive villages : Bishops Lydeard, Milverton and Wiveliscombe. Bishops Lydeard is very popular with visitors as it is home to one of the larger stations on the West Somerset Railway. Also in this village our members have the benefit of sharing the use of a camp site and Scout hut set in beautiful woodland close to the village center and local amenities.
Wells Division consists of three Districts, running roughly in an L shape from Holcombe to Shepton Mallet along the south side of the Mendip Hills, following the A39 to Ashcott and taking in the villages either side of the A39.
