Welcome from the County Commissioner

Welcome to the website of Girlguiding Somerset. Through the following pages we hope to show you a little about Guiding in this wonderful county. As you may know Guiding is a national and international organisation for girls and young women.  In Somerset we have around 4,500 members aged from 5 years and upwards.  There is something in Guiding for every interest and age.  Whether you enjoy the outdoors, indoors, craft, music, sport or socialising; Guiding has masses to offer.

Guiding is fun, exciting and a great way to meet new people. It is an opportunity to try out new challenges and you never know; you might even:

Our sections are:

·        Rainbows 5 - 7 years

·        Brownies 7 – 10 years

·        Guides 10 – 14 years

·        Senior Section 14 – 25 years.

Unit meetings are usually held weekly, during term time and you can contact us through this website to find the nearest one to you.  In addition Somerset has a thriving unit of Lone Guides.  This is for girls who for a variety of reasons are unable to get to a meeting place each week.  The unit members keep in regular touch with each other using email.

Guiding is extremely important in a rural county like ours and for some of our girls it is the only opportunity they have to join a group of girls of their own age in their own community.    Could you enable us to open more units or help with an existing one?  You don’t need any previous experience and there are lots of ways to volunteer and support Guiding so please contact me through this website if you are interested in finding out more.

The pages for leaders on this website are growing and now have the latest copies of Somerset News and Update our county newsletter. I hope there will be more items of interest in due course and if you have any suggestions for the site’s improvement please let us know.
